The work behind the filing
Start the clock from the actual termination date
The 30-day window runs from the termination, and the termination is recorded in HR, not in compliance. Caddi can watch the HR system and open the U5 work on the day the record changes rather than when someone notices.
Run the offboarding checklist alongside the filing
A departure is never only a U5. It touches system access, household reassignment, the Part 2B supplement, and the delivery obligations that reassignment creates. Caddi can run the whole sequence from the same trigger.
Questions
What is Form U5?
Form U5 is the Uniform Termination Notice for Securities Industry Registration, filed through CRD when a registered individual's association with a firm ends.
Why do firms hear about a U5 late?
Because a termination is an HR event before it is a compliance event. Someone leaves, HR processes the exit, and the filing obligation lands on a team that was not in the loop. Firms that automate the handoff treat the HR system as the trigger rather than waiting for an email.
Can a Form U5 be amended after it is filed?
Yes. If the firm later learns information that would have changed the answers, it files an amended U5.
Does Caddi file this form for me?
No. Caddi does not submit filings to IARD, FINRA Gateway, EDGAR, or any regulator, and it is not a substitute for your compliance program or your CCO. Caddi automates the work around the filing: gathering the underlying data out of your portfolio, CRM, and document systems, reconciling it against the prior filing, flagging what changed, and evidencing delivery. A human still reviews and files.
