Process mining taught companies to trust the data over the flowchart. Its weakness was context: a process map shows that invoices loop, but not which suppliers cause it, what it costs in working capital, or what to do on Monday. Process intelligence platforms answered by building a richer model of the business around the event data, often called a process graph or digital twin, and adding KPIs, benchmarks, simulation and lightweight actions like alerts, tasks and write-backs to a system.
Those actions are where the category's promise meets its limit.
