For directors of conflicts

Clear new business faster.
Every search documented.

Caddi AI Agents run the searches your analysts run, across Intapp, the financial system and the text inside your documents, assemble the hits into the report, and chase the attorney for what is missing. Clearing the conflict stays with your lawyers.

The role

What a director of conflicts does

A director of conflicts runs the firm's conflicts clearance function: the searches on new clients, new matters, additional parties and lateral hires, the review of every hit, the reports that go back to the requesting attorney, and the record that shows the firm checked. At larger firms the title is often Director of Conflicts and New Business Intake. It usually reports to the General Counsel or into risk management, and leads a team of conflicts analysts and, at some firms, conflicts attorneys.

The work sits on the rules of professional conduct. ABA Model Rule 1.7 covers conflicts with current clients, 1.9 duties to former clients, 1.10 how one lawyer's conflict is imputed to the whole firm and when a lateral can be screened instead, and 1.18 duties to prospective clients, which is why intake should collect only what conflicts needs before the check clears. States adopt their own versions, so the firm's policy is the operative text.

The week

Where a conflicts team's week goes

The judgment in conflicts is a small share of the hours. Most of the week is searching every spelling of every party, reading hits, chasing attorneys for answers and assembling reports, request after request.

Caddi runs the searches and assembles the evidence. Clearing a conflict, deciding on a waiver and approving a screen stay with your lawyers.

Discover

Find the steps your analysts repeat on every request.

Discover reads the activity in the systems your team already works in, with the access they already have, and ranks the repeated work by how often it happens and how long it takes, with the counts behind every finding.

  • Evidence you can check, not a suggestion list
  • Covers the shared conflicts mailbox, not one analyst
  • Read only. It writes nothing.

Morning Inbox Triage and Matter Filing

Read each new message in Outlook, open any Docusign envelope, match it to the matter in Clio and file the executed copy to NetDocuments.

What Caddi saw

  • 1,204messages read in Outlook in the last 30 days
  • 418Docusign envelopes opened from those messages
  • 412matters matched in Clio and filed to NetDocuments
  • 6exceptions raised for review in Teams

Why it’s worth automating

Every message already names the client and the matter. The four steps are the same each time, and the tools never talk to each other, so you carry the details between them by hand.

Automate

Built by the people who know the procedure.

Walk Caddi through how your team runs a request, on a screenshare, including the parts that are not in the written procedure. It drafts the workflow, asks about the edge cases it did not see, and runs it the same way on the thousandth request as on the first.

  • Every spelling, every party, every time
  • Stops and asks rather than guessing on an ambiguous hit
  • Caddi builds the workflow with you, then verified code runs it against your systems through their APIs, the same way every time. Any model step inside a run is scoped, logged and reviewable.
How Automate works
Govern

A record you can hand to the General Counsel.

Every run is logged with what was searched, where, what came back and who it went to. When the question is whether the firm checked, the answer is a run record, not a recollection.

  • Run history for every request
  • Who reviewed what, and when
  • One view of every agent across the firm

FAQ

Questions conflicts directors ask us

What does a director of conflicts do at a law firm?
A director of conflicts runs the firm's conflicts clearance function. They own the searches on new clients, new matters, additional parties and lateral hires, the review of hits and the reports to requesting attorneys, ethical walls, waiver tracking and the conflicts database. At larger firms the role is often Director of Conflicts and New Business Intake and reports to the General Counsel or risk management.
Can law firm conflict checks be automated?
The searching can, and it is most of the hours: running every variant of every party across the conflicts system, the financial system and the text inside documents, then assembling the hits. Clearing an identified conflict cannot and should not be automated. It is a judgment under the rules of professional conduct and belongs to a lawyer.
Does Caddi replace Intapp?
No. Caddi works inside the systems you already run, including Intapp, and takes on the steps around them that your team does by hand today: pulling parties off the form, searching document text, assembling reports, chasing attorneys and tracking acknowledgments.
How does Caddi handle lateral hire conflicts?
It reads the lateral's matter list, normalizes the party names, runs each one against your conflicts database and assembles the report for your team to review before the offer goes out. Under ABA Model Rule 1.10(a)(2), whether a conflict can be handled with a screen is the firm's call, and the report is built to support it.
What does the record look like if we are ever asked whether we checked?
Every run is logged: the request, every name searched, every system searched, what came back, what was sent to whom, and who reviewed it. The record is kept per request and can be exported.
Is our client data used to train models?
No. The contents of your connected systems are never used to train models. Calls to OpenAI and Anthropic run under zero-data-retention terms, and data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Caddi is SOC 2 Type II attested.
