Finding the work is step one
UiPath is unusual among mining vendors because it owns the build tool too. That sounds end to end, until you look at who does each step. Analysts run the mining. Automation Hub turns ideas into a scored backlog. RPA developers pick items off it and script bots in Studio, usually against UI selectors. A CoE keeps the bot estate alive when screens change. Four teams, and the person who actually does the work is not one of them.
Event logs and desktop agents vs. connected tools
UiPath finds work two ways. Process Mining needs event-log extraction from SAP, Oracle, ServiceNow or a warehouse, with connectors and data transformation to keep it current. Task Mining installs a recorder on employee machines that captures screenshots and clicks for weeks, then clusters them into candidate tasks. Both are heavy to stand up, and task mining raises the obvious question of what gets captured on people's screens.
Discover takes neither path. It connects to Outlook, Gmail, Clio, NetDocuments, iManage, Salesforce, Wealthbox, Redtail and Box under the access users already have, read only, always. It forms hypotheses about the processes running, checks them against real activity, and shows only what the data supports, ranked by hours.
